Bergen Goes Green

A green transformation is underway at Bergen Community College’s main campus cafeteria — and you can help by following three simple rules: compost, recycle and conserve.

Gourmet Dining Services and Bergen Community College are working together to realize the sustainable goals of both groups.

Compost: Beginning this semester, Bergen and Gourmet Dining, LLC have stocked the cafeteria with compostable plates, cups, flatware and napkins.  When finished with these items – and leftover food – deposit them in the new bins marked “compostable.”

Recycle: Bottles and cans should be placed in the green-colored bins; white paper and newsprint should be placed in the blue-colored bin. Regular garbage should still be placed in the brown-colored bins.

Conserve: Take only what you need – don’t stock up on extra napkins and flatware.  Consider bringing reusable storage containers, flatware and bottles from home.
