The following programs are being run currently at NJIT to adhere to our corporate sustainability standards.

GREEN GOURMET PROGRAMS



Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Supplies

We use all eco-friendly cleaning systems. All chemicals including the multipurpose cleaner, peroxide dispensing system, dish machine soaps, and GoJo hand soaps are eco-friendly. Our latest addition is an all natural floor cleaner that uses only water and converts its chemicals to create a disinfecting cleanser.




Local Purchases

All year long, we focus on buying as many local products as possible. In season, we buy produce primarily from New Jersey and the northeast region. Our of season we buy from the closest geographic region and support local bakeries, creameries and butchers. Buying locally means we lower our carbon footprint by reducing trucking, we support our local economy, and we eat the freshest food available. And we love fresh food!



Reusable Mug Program

Plastic bottles are a major resource-draining product. Even with recycling programs, the resources that go into making a plastic bottles (a petroleum based product) are extraordinary. This is why we have instituted our reusable water bottle and coffee mug program where participating students can save money and help the environment.



Energy Efficient Appliances

Due to major renovations to the dining facilities every five years, all equipment purchased has the latest in energy efficiencies. As an added measure, all of our staff are trained to properly shutdown equipment during closed hours. All of our self service stations go automatically into an energy efficient standby mode when not in use.





Natural and Organic Food Purchases

We purchase natural and organic products because we believe that food in its purest state, unadulterated by artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings, and preservatives, is the best tasting and most nutritious food available. All natural and organic products we served are labeled as such.







Water Efficient Dish Machines

Sanolite supplies eco-friendly chemicals for our dish machines and monitors the temperatures and operations for each machine. They visit each site twice a month and run a thorough test on the dish machine as well as check the sanitation of our sinks. These procedures are taken to ensure that we meet the requirements of the State of New Jersey and that the proper amount of water is being used to ensure efficient cleaning and conservation.
